Buck Island is our final destination for many of these trips and it is well worth it. Buck Island is a national park and the snorkeling in these waters can not be beat. While snorkeling all over the Caribbean in the past 20 years, I find our waters to be the best.

St. Croix has a very active Yacht Club- where people of all ages are involved. Each year, an International Regetta is held- where the winner wins his weight in Cruzan Rum! During the summer, the yacht club runs a sailing camp which is open to all kids on the island. Festivities occur weekly. This is where you really see the sailing community come together!

WHAT MARINAS ARE AVAILABLE?
St. Croix Marine is a full service marina with haul out facilities, dry storage and wet storage . Green Cay Marina is a well protected marina with many slips. Normally there is a wait list, but the time frame is minimal. St. Croix Yacht Club has slips and dry storage, but you must be a member. Salt River Marina is a well protected area with slips and moorings. This area has mangroves and is a great place to have your boat during a hurricane. The towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted offer mooring areas. Moorings must be approved by Department of Planning and Natural Resources.

BUYING A BOAT IN THE VIRGIN ISLANDS
Many are available - both power and sail. Boats are available to buy from individuals or marinas. Remember- you can buy a boat in St. Thomas or Puerto Rico and sail it to St. Croix or have it shipped. The same laws apply to boat sales in the Virgin Islands as in the states.

OTHER BOATING OPPORTUNITIES IN ST. CROIX
Even if you do not own your own boat- there are still several opportunities for you to be out on the water. Charter boats are available for you to take a full or half day sail to Buck Island. Sailing charters are available by the day- or several days if you want to stay on your boat and check out the other islands. Love to fish? Hire a fishing charter for the day and try your hand at catching a record-setting wahoo, mahi mahi or marlin!
